This is the third edition of Discover Spain which covers regions of Spain where we don’t already produce a special report, as well as wines that fall outside of DO classification. We tasted 873 wines over the course of a week in May in Logroño, Rioja, and 374 scored 90 points or more.
Endorsing the quality of Spain, there are 60 wines with 95+, all wines of exceptional quality that speak of their origins. These wines will all qualify for our next Best of Spain event, the first of which was held in Madrid just after our Discover Spain tasting in May. With winemakers invited to present only their very top-scoring wines, it was an opportunity to highlight not just the diversity of Spain, but its quality.
We hope you enjoy the selection. Once again, we were impressed by the ever more varied and exciting range of white wines coming from regions like the Canaries, the Basque Country and Castilla y León, while the fresh and characterful reds from the Levante keep improving and impressing every year.
While there are many wineries in this report who have now sent us samples to review for the second or third time, there are also many new entries. We hope this gives you plenty to consider and reinforces why we believe Spain is simply the place to be in wine right now.
