Description
Based on a three-week fact-finding trip to the country in February this year, my 2024 Argentina Report is my twelfth annual overview of the world’s eighth-largest wine-producing nation. At 289 pages, it’s a comprehensive overview of the country’s dynamic and ever-evolving wine industry.
All in all, I tasted more than 1,776 different wines from 312 producers. In the interests of brevity(!), I have concentrated on the 1,305 labels that scored 90 points or more. Reflecting the quality of what I sampled, a record 173 brands – my wines of the year – scored 95 points or more and one red achieved magical 100-point perfection.
Despite some tricky recent vintages, not least the frost-hit 2023 crop, and on-going testing economic and political circumstances, Argentina’s wines continue to improve. The 2019, 2021 and 2022 vintages are all very good to outstanding.
As well as my tasting notes, the report includes my annual classification of the best 250 producers, my winemakers, wines and bodegas of the year, an in-depth discussion of the current wine scene, maps, photographs taken in the region and tips on where to eat and drink. It’s the most complete report in English on Argentinian wine. As well as a labour of love about one of my favourite countries.
