The Porta da Galicia railway station was only opened a few years ago, connecting Madrid to Spain’s northwest via AVE, the country’s super speedy train. Thank goodness! It is a wonderfully fast way to access the glorious vineyards of Valdeorras and Monterrei, the patchwork of minifundios of Ribeiro or the steep, terraced slopes of Ribeira Sacra.
In November and December 2025, I returned to the four inland DOs of Galicia to taste wines for the second edition of the Galicia Report Top 100. In total, I have scored 429 wines from 101 producers for this report, all of which are listed in the A-Z of wineries, and the Top 100 includes detailed tasting notes.
Most of the wines featured are from the 2024 vintage or earlier but the report includes details of the 2025 harvest and reveals the efforts made by producers to protect their vineyards from the devastating fires of the summer, and to save their wines from smoke taint. The report also highlights some trends and key sub-zones.
As one of Spain’s emerging regions for local red varieties and home to some of the world’s classiest whites, Galicia’s interior is deserving of ever-increasing attention.
