Castilla La Mancha, Spain’s sparsely populated plateau in central Spain. The land of Don Quixote, windmills and cheese. Home to Cervantes, Almodóvar and Iniesta. And yes, Spain’s largest wine producing region.

Over one weekend in January, I had the opportunity to taste some of Castilla La Mancha’s most exciting wines. Local wine critic and proud Manchego journalist Joaquín Parra, author of the Spanish guide Wine Up, curated a tasting of 100 wines from the various DOs, IGPs and other classifications that fall within the boundaries of the autonomous community of Castilla La Mancha. Each wine represents a different style and shines a light on the diversity of the region. From this selection, I scored and made tasting notes for each wine, effectively producing a Top 100 list.

Certainly, there is much more to uncover but working with Wine Up has allowed us to produce this glimpse into the region.
