Description
The 2024 vintage marked a return to balance after the drought-driven extremes of 2023. A more temperate growing season allowed for slower ripening, leading to wines with greater freshness, moderate alcohol, and refined textures.
Variability remained a factor, as it always does in Uruguay, but producers navigated the conditions with precision, confirming the growing confidence and maturity of the industry.
The rise of Albariño continues to redefine the profile of Uruguayan white wines. Now firmly established as the leading white variety, it shows compelling expression across different regions and producers. Alongside it, an increasing number of distinctive white blends and varietal wines point to renewed ambition in the category.
For this report, I tasted 445 wines from 41 producers, a selection that reflects both the consolidation of quality and the forward momentum of Uruguay’s diverse wine landscape.
