Description
Based on a three-week fact-finding trip to the country in February and March this year, my 2025 Argentina Report is my twelfth annual overview of the world’s fifth largest wine-producing nation. At 300 pages and over 100,000 words, it’s my most a comprehensive overview of the country’s dynamic and ever-evolving wine industry.
All in all, I tasted more than 1,730 different wines from 299 producers. In the interests of brevity(!), I have concentrated on the 1,314 labels that scored 90 points or more. Reflecting the quality of what I sampled, a record 170 brands – my wines of the year – scored 95 points or more. Three wines achieved 99 points and five 98 points.
Despite some tricky recent vintages, not least the frost-hit 2023 crop, and testing economic and political circumstances, Argentina’s wines continue to improve. The 2019, 2021 and 2022 vintages are all very good to outstanding.
As well as my tasting notes, the report includes my annual classification of the best 250 producers, my winemakers, wines and bodegas of the year, an in-depth discussion of the national and international wine scene, maps, photographs taken in the region and tips on where to eat and drink. It’s the most complete report in English on Argentinian wine, as well as a love letter to one of my favourite countries.
