My 2025 Ribera del Duero Special Report is based on a 13-day, fact-finding visit to the region in September 2025.  All in all, I tasted 566 wines from a record 183 bodegas, visiting nearly half of them in person. I also spent two mornings exploring vineyards with the team from Milsetentayseis in Fuentenebro and Sergio Ávila of Cruz de Alba in Peñafiel.

Ribera del Duero is predominantly a red wine region, of course, with Tinto Fino, or Tempranillo, its dominant grape. But it also makes rosés, or clarets, and, since the 2019 vintage, has included white wines based on the local Albillo Mayor grape under its Denominación de Origen. There are a record number of whites and claretes in this year’s report, as well as some fantastic reds.

All in all, 73 wines scored 95 points or more. Two wines achieved 100 points (the third time that Vega Sicilia has received this distinction from me, and a first for the Dominio del Águila), one scored 99 points, four achieved 98 points and six 97 points. These are the highest ratings I’ve ever given in Ribera del Duero, reflecting the increasing quality of the region’s wines.

As well as 381 tasting notes, my comprehensive, 120-page report includes an in-depth analysis of history, terroir, economics, climate change and recent vintages, suggestions for further reading and tips on where to eat, drink and stay in the region.
