This is my sixth Chilean Special report. At 196 pages, it’s my most comprehensive overview yet of the world’s fifth biggest wine-producing country.
After an absence of two years – blame COVID – it was great to be back in the country last December. Being there during a landmark general election added a frisson of excitement, as did the chance to visit Chile’s most southerly vineyard in Chile Chico, down in the depths of spectacularly beautiful Patagonia. You can see just how beautiful it is on the cover of the report!
The 1,198 wines I tasted for this report were sampled over a period of three weeks travelling the length and (narrow) breadth of Chile. All in all, I tasted with or visited 187 different producers. Walking through vineyards and cellars is a vital and enjoyable part of what I do, giving me insights that I wouldn’t otherwise obtain.
As ever, I have also named my star wineries and winemakers of the year and have updated my controversial Chilean classification. This is the chance for me to acknowledge not just well-known and, in some cases, legendary figures but also the rising stars of the future.
All this and over 900 tasting notes – for £20!
