Description

This is our first-ever Portugal report and we could not be more excited to launch it! It is the result of tastings conducted over the course of three weeks at the end of March and the beginning of April this year, with visits to wineries from the north to the south of the country.

I tasted close to 800 wines, 671 of which feature in this report (still wines only as Port and Madeira are covered elsewhere). They showcase the work of 101 producers.

The participating wineries are among the very best in Portugal. As a result, the scores are high, which reflects the quality and innovation expressed in the country’s new wave of terroir-driven wines. There are two reds, two whites and a fortified wine with 98 points. And there is also a 100 point wine from Porto Santo, which captures the essence of the Atlantic… a truly magical wine.

We hope to develop this report further and include more details about wine tourism, bars and restaurants, but for now, it features an overview of the country’s regions and some thoughts on where the Portuguese wine industry finds itself in 2026.
