Description
Rías Baixas is one of Spain’s finest white wine regions and an increasingly impressive source of reds. It is proudly and uniquely Galician.
The record 258 wines I tasted for this 68-page report were sampled over a period of nine days in Rías Baixas in July 2024 and in London in November. It’s the biggest selection I’ve tasted yet and includes several exciting new names.
All in all, I assessed wines from 72 of Rías Baixas’s 178 producers, including most of the top whites and reds, as well as a broad selection of what the region has to offer at cheaper price points. An impressive total of 50 wines scored 95 points or more. Of those, two received 98 points and eight 97 points. Rías Baixas really is one of Spain’s most exciting regions right now, for both whites and reds.
The report also includes an in-depth overview of the region’s history, climate, grape varieties and terroirs, as well as vintage reports, restaurant recommendations and suggestions for further reading. In short, it’s the most extensive guide to the Denominación de Origen in English.
