Description

At 201 pages, my 2023 Chile Special Report is my longest and most comprehensive survey yet of what is now the biggest wine-producing country in the Southern Hemisphere.

Based on a three-week trip to the country in December 2023, during which I covered more than 3,500 kilometres, it features 1,173 wines from 184 wineries. 894 of these scored 90 points or more and have their own tasting note. Nineteen wines scored more than 97 points and one received 100 points – a first for Chile, at least from me.

Chile, like many of its competitors, is facing considerable challenges at the moment: low mass-market prices, oversupply and the effects of climate change. But, as I argue in the report, it is also producing the greatest and most diverse wines in its history, making the most of its unique geographical position.

My in-depth report tells you everything you need to know about the current Chilean wine scene. As well as my tastings notes, it features my annual classification of the country’s best bodegas, an extensive overview of terroir, grape varieties, economics, wine styles and recent vintages, photos of the leading winemakers and viticulturists and recommendations for further reading as well as the country’s best restaurants.
