Description

Based on a three-week fact-finding trip to the country in February, my 2023 Argentina Report is my eleventh-annual overview of the world’s seventh-largest wine-producing nation. At 296 pages, it’s my most comprehensive overview yet of the country’s dynamic and ever-evolving wine industry.

All told, I tasted more than 2,0000 different wines from 379 producers. In the interests of brevity(!), I have concentrated on the 1,391 labels that scored 90 points or more (up from 1,350 in 2021). All in all, 136 brands – my wines of the year – scored 95 points or more and two reds achieved 100-point perfection.

Despite some tricky recent vintages, not least the frost-hit 2023 crop, and testing economic circumstances, Argentina’s wines continue to improve. The 2019 vintage in particular is one of the best in the country’s history.

As well as my tasting notes, the report includes my annual classification of the best 250 producers, my winemakers, wines and bodegas of the year, an in-depth discussion of the current wine scene, maps, photographs taken in the region and tips on where to eat and drink. It’s the most complete report in English on Argentinian wine.
