Description

Welcome to my first ever review of Peruvian wines, based on a week’s research and tasting in the country last November.
When I caught up with my Peruvian friend and fellow wine writer, Melina Bertocchi, for a pisco sour (what else?) one evening in Lima, she asked me what I thought of the local wines? “Surprisingly good,” was my response. Hence this Top 50, which lists those that were, to me at least, the best wines I sampled on my trip.
This is just the beginning of the Peruvian renaissance, partly inspired by world-wide interest in its gastronomy. Four hundred and eighty four years after its first vineyards were planted in Lima, Peru is surely now making the best wines in its history, with many more to come.
