Description

It was great to be back in Argentina this year after a break in 2021 because of the pandemic.
I spent nearly a month in the country travelling from Buenos Aires to Mendoza via the Welsh colony of Trevelin in Patagonia. Yes, they make wines there too and I have the wooden dragon to prove it.
The result is my biggest and most comprehensive report on the country’s exciting, ever-evolving wine scene. All in all, I tasted 2,001 wines from 370 producers, many of whom I visited in person to chat about vineyards, vintages and styles. Of these wines, 1,350 scored more than 90 points and are covered with a full tasting note in the report.
As well as these essential notes, my overview contains maps, restaurant tips, photographs, my wines and winemakers of the year and an in-depth, point-by-point guide to the Ten Things You Need To Know about Argentinian wine right now.
I highlight several things in the report: the continued excellence of Malbec, the growing quality and diversity of the country’s white wines, the welcome emergence of more and more top female oenologists, the rise of organic viticulture and, inevitably, the long-running saga of Argentina’s struggling economy.
Running to 281 pages and more than 85,000 words, my 2022 Argentina Report is my most extensive yet.
